Shoulder To Shoulder (STS) is primarily focused on mentoring and tutoring young men entering 7th grade and continuing through high school graduation, which is done through the initiative of Freedom Hall.
Research has found that mentoring has the ability to change the outcome of a young man's future. Young men who have been mentored for a long term period are:
- 46% less likely to use drugs or alcohol.
- 53% less likely to skip school.
- 33% less likely to resort to violence.
- 59% more like to get better grades.
STS is unique in its partnership with MLK and its coorperative relationships with area churches and businesses. Our desire is to facilitate churches adopting MLK in cooperation with STS.
STS believes that to effect this change in the young men, the single mothers and their families must be cared for in ways that assist them where they are not already being served.
